CONDO MURAL – DISCOBOLUS

A young student moving into a new apartment wanted to personalize his space with a mural that reflected his passion for classical art. He chose the Discobolus, an iconic sculpture from ancient Greece, symbolizing strength, discipline, and the beauty of athletic form. The mural was designed to be a bold centerpiece in the living room, transforming the space into a unique and inspiring environment.

Project Details:

  • Client Request: A large-scale mural of the Discobolus statue with a painterly style, allowing visible brushstrokes to emphasize movement and artistic expression.
  • Execution:
    • The image was first converted into a stylized digital cartoon using Photoshop, a stylus, and a drawing pad.
    • The design was projected onto the wall to ensure accurate proportions and layout.
    • The painting process involved careful shading and layering, using reference images to maintain the sculpture’s details.
    • The floor was protected with drop cloths, and the edges of the wall were taped to prevent paint from spilling onto adjacent areas.
  • Challenges:
    • Working in a condo required precision and cleanliness, ensuring no splatters on other surfaces.
    • The painting had to be completed around the client’s schedule, so sessions were arranged while they were away to make the process seamless.

Mural Description:

The mural features a monochromatic rendering of the Discobolus of Myron, a classical Greek sculpture depicting an athlete in the moment of throwing a discus. The statue, originally sculpted in bronze around 460–450 BCE, represents harmony, balance, and physical perfection—ideals celebrated in ancient Greek culture. The mural’s brushstroke texture adds depth and motion to the figure, making it a dynamic focal point within the space.

This project successfully turned a blank wall into a striking artistic statement, giving the client a timeless piece of history in their modern home.
