DOGGY DAYCARE MURAL

This project was for a dog center located in The Beaches on Queen Street. The client wanted a large silhouette of a dog painted on the side of the building and a smaller dog silhouette at the front. The design was provided by the client, and it perfectly complemented the building’s facade while ensuring it would catch the attention of the community.

Inspiration & Concept Development

The idea was to create a bold, eye-catching mural that would instantly convey the purpose of the business. The large black dog silhouette on the white brick wall creates a striking contrast, while the smaller dog silhouette at the front adds a playful element. The simplicity of the design ensures that it remains memorable and recognizable to passersby.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the primary challenges was the height of the wall, which required us to work carefully using ladders. Normally, a boom lift would be preferred for such heights, but due to the relatively small portion of the wall that needed painting, we opted for ladders. Safety was our top priority, so a team member was assigned as a “ladder man” to stabilize the ladder at all times during the painting process.

Another challenge was the cold weather, which made the paint application process slower and required extra care to ensure a smooth finish. Despite these obstacles, we completed the mural successfully, with the final result being a dramatic transformation of the building’s exterior.

Techniques & Materials

  • Projection: The images were projected onto the wall from across the street to ensure accurate scaling and positioning.
  • Freehand Painting: After projecting the images, we used brushes and rollers to hand-paint the silhouettes, ensuring clean lines and even coverage.
  • High-Quality Exterior Paint: Chosen for its durability and ability to withstand harsh weather conditions.

Impact & Feedback

The completed mural has significantly enhanced the visibility of the dog center, making it a landmark in the area. The bold design is both functional and artistic, drawing attention from the local community and potential clients. The client was very happy with the result, noting how the mural has increased the center’s curb appeal.

Timeframe & Scale

This project was completed over the course of three days. The use of ladders and the cold weather extended the timeline slightly, but careful planning and teamwork ensured a successful outcome.

This Doggy Daycare mural project is a great example of how a simple yet bold design can transform a building and attract community attention.
