EXTERIOR PAINTED SIGN

Location & Purpose

This large-scale exterior painted sign in Guelph was created for The Junction, a hub for office spaces and co-working environments. The goal of the mural was to attract attention from the nearby street, ensuring high visibility for passing traffic. The building itself is over 100 feet in width, making this an imposing and striking landmark.

Design & Scale

• Each letter in JUNCTION stands at 10 feet in height, ensuring maximum legibility from a distance.
• The bold, industrial-style typography complements the aesthetic of the building and the surrounding environment.

Execution & Techniques

• Surface Preparation: The brick façade was thoroughly prepped to ensure the paint adhered properly.
• Lettering Layout:
  • All straight lines in the letters were precisely measured and hand-painted.
  • The curves required a more specialized approach. Instead of using a vinyl stencil, a custom stencil was created using corrugated plastic, ensuring consistency across each curved letter.
• Accessing the Wall:
  • Due to a fence preventing the use of a skyjack, the entire project was completed using scaffolding, which had to be assembled and dismantled multiple times to accommodate each letter.
• Timeline: The entire project took approximately one week to complete.

Impact & Visibility

This sign now serves as a high-visibility landmark, effectively branding The Junction as a dynamic and recognizable hub for small businesses and co-working professionals in Guelph.
