OCCHIOLINO EXTERIOR WALL MURAL PROJECT

This mural project was commissioned for Occhiolino, a new upscale restaurant located on a busy downtown Toronto street. The goal was to create a clean, eye-catching exterior design that would bring attention to the restaurant and enhance the look of the area. The design, developed by a designer we have previously collaborated with, features a simple yet elegant layout with a large, bold font painted on a white background.

Inspiration & Concept Development

The concept for the mural was to create a minimalist, upscale look that aligns with the restaurant’s brand identity. Using an analogous color scheme, the design emphasizes the restaurant’s name, Occhiolino, making it highly visible to pedestrians and drivers passing by. The simplicity of the design ensures that it stands out without overwhelming the surrounding environment.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the main challenges of this project was working around the fence that partially obstructed the wall. Despite this obstacle, we were able to carefully maneuver our equipment and apply the paint with precision. The textured surface of the wall added another layer of complexity, requiring patience and attention to detail to ensure even coverage.

We used a spray gun to apply the base color and hand-painted the stencil for the letters with a brush. Creating a large stencil for the lettering helped achieve sharp, clean lines despite the uneven surface of the wall.

Techniques & Materials

  • Spray Gun Application: Used for the base coat to ensure smooth and even coverage.
  • Hand-Painted Stencil: Applied with a brush to achieve precise, clean lettering.
  • High-Quality Exterior Paint: Chosen for durability and vibrancy to withstand outdoor elements.

Impact & Feedback

The completed mural significantly enhances the exterior of the restaurant, giving it a fresh, vibrant look that attracts attention from the busy street. The clean, elegant “Pastificio” signage, while not the restaurant’s name, serves as a creative feature that draws interest and adds to the upscale atmosphere. The simple yet bold design effectively highlights the restaurant’s presence, creating a modern and inviting facade. The client was very pleased with the outcome, noting that it brought new energy to the space.

Timeframe & Scale

This project took 4 days to complete, including the preparation and painting phases. The large wall provides a prominent canvas, making the mural a central feature of the area.

This Occhiolino mural was a successful collaboration that resulted in a sleek and professional design, perfectly aligning with the client’s vision.
