INFARM WAREHOUSE MURAL – A MASSIVE, HIGH-IMPACT DESIGN

This 120-foot by 40-foot mural was designed for Infarm, a global leader in vertical farming. Infarm specializes in sustainable, indoor agriculture, using cutting-edge hydroponic systems to grow fresh produce inside climate-controlled environments. Their large-scale urban farms reduce the need for traditional farmland, eliminate excessive water usage, and drastically cut transportation emissions by bringing food production closer to consumers. This massive warehouse is part of their mission to redefine the future of farming, making high-quality, organic food accessible in urban settings.

For such an ambitious large-scale mural, every step of the process required precise planning and execution. From scaling up the design to ensuring each element was painted with accuracy, this project was a true test of technical skill and dedication.

THE CHALLENGE OF PAINTING A PERFECT 30-FOOT CIRCLE

One of the standout elements of this mural is the 30-foot diameter green circle, the largest we have ever painted. Circles are notoriously difficult to execute on large walls, and at this scale, the challenge was even greater. Unlike smaller circles, which can be stenciled or projected with relative ease, a 30-foot circle demands old-school geometry and steady hands.

How We Did It:

  • We used a string and pencil method, which is an age-old technique in sign painting. A central anchor point was placed, and a long string—15 feet long—was attached to a pencil, allowing us to carefully trace the circle.
  • Even with this method, accuracy can be an issue. When working with large-scale murals, walls are never perfectly flat and can slightly distort the shape as you go around.
  • Circles often don’t match up at the starting point when drawn at scale. This can result in an uneven edge that needs to be adjusted manually. However, through careful measuring, a steady hand, and an intense focus on alignment, the circle miraculously met itself perfectly at the end.
  • The satisfaction of getting such a large circle to line up so flawlessly is something we still talk about to this day.

Circles at just six feet in diameter can already be tricky—even with stencils—because aligning the edges precisely is difficult, especially if the stencil is cut into multiple sections. Now imagine that difficulty multiplied five times over. This was one of the most challenging yet rewarding parts of the project, and seeing it come together seamlessly was a major accomplishment.

TECHNIQUES USED IN THE INFARM MURAL

Aside from the massive circle, several other elements required specialized techniques:

  • The flower illustration on the right side of the mural was projected onto the wall for precision.
  • The text in the upper right corner, spanning over 20 feet long, was applied using large-scale precision-cut stencils.
  • The bold phrase “Fresh Taste for People and Planet” on the left was also stenciled to maintain consistency with Infarm’s branding.
  • The giant abstract typography in the center had to be carefully measured, outlined, and hand-painted, with curves adjusted to ensure a flawless finish.
  • Over 20 gallons of extra vibrant paint were used, ensuring bold, long-lasting colors that would stand out in the vast warehouse space.

Skyjack lifts were essential for this job, especially when working at maximum height to reach the top sections of the mural. The scale of the project required a high level of coordination, from setting up projection points to adjusting for any distortions on the wall.

A MURAL THAT REFLECTS INFARM’S MISSION

Infarm’s vision is to create a more sustainable future through smart farming practices that reduce environmental impact while increasing food security. This mural is more than just a large-scale piece of art—it visually reinforces Infarm’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and bringing fresh, locally grown food to urban communities.

When tackling a project of this magnitude, every detail matters, from the alignment of giant letters to the precision of a 30-foot circle. The end result was a powerful, eye-catching mural that perfectly encapsulates Infarm’s mission.
