LOCALE MERCATTO RESTAURANT MURAL – ENTRANCE AND INTERIOR
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Year: 2016
Inspiration and Concept:
Locale Mercatto, a sleek and stylish restaurant, wanted their space to reflect a modern yet urban aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the intricate and dynamic nature of cityscapes. To achieve this, we incorporated road map designs onto their windows and entranceway tiles, seamlessly blending art with functionality. The use of bold lines and sophisticated detailing brought the energy of the city into their welcoming environment.
Techniques and Materials:
This project presented unique challenges, particularly due to the winter conditions. Although the work was indoors, the cold surfaces of the windows made the paint drying process slower than usual. To ensure precision, we employed vinyl stencils for both the road map designs and the restaurant’s logo. The stencils allowed us to replicate the detailed road map patterns accurately, providing a clean and professional finish. For the entrance, we carefully painted the tiled wall using the same stencil technique, ensuring consistency across all elements.
Challenges:
Working during the winter months required innovative solutions to counteract the cold affecting the paint’s adhesion and drying time. Additionally, the intricate map designs needed meticulous application, which demanded both patience and precision. Despite these obstacles, we successfully completed the project, ensuring the quality met the restaurant’s high standards.
Outcome:
The finished mural and painted windows added a unique and artistic touch to Locale Mercatto’s space, creating an inviting atmosphere that mirrors the vibrant energy of urban life. The combination of functional design and artistry transformed the entrance and dining areas into a visual experience for guests, aligning with the restaurant’s brand identity.
