MATCH CASINO EXTERIOR WALL MURAL

 

This project was for the newly constructed Match Casino in Wasaga Beach, commissioned by the construction company overseeing the development. The goal was to paint the casino’s bold “MATCH” font on a massive slatted wall, measuring approximately 30 feet in height and 80 feet in width. The sheer scale of the lettering ensures it grabs attention from the nearby highway, making it an iconic feature of the site.

Inspiration & Concept Development

The casino’s brand identity is bold and sophisticated, and the massive lettering reflects that perfectly. The minimalist yet commanding design serves not only as signage but also as an architectural feature, drawing the eye and making a statement to anyone passing by.

Challenges & Solutions

Projection and Access: The size of the letters posed a significant challenge for layout and execution. To address this, we used a 60-foot boom lift to project and paint the design. Careful planning was essential to ensure precise scaling and alignment of the letters on such a large surface.

Delicate Landscaping: The wall was surrounded by a landscaped garden, which required us to be extremely cautious with the boom lift to avoid damaging plants, trees, or soil. The team worked meticulously to ensure that the equipment remained within safe zones.

Slatted Wall Surface: Painting on a slatted wall added complexity, as the grooves and gaps required precise taping and extra layers of primer and paint for even coverage. This ensured the lettering appeared cohesive and bold, despite the textured surface.

On-Site Logistics: Given the distance from our base—1.5 hours each way—we opted to stay on-site, renting local accommodations. This not only saved travel time but also allowed us to dedicate longer hours to the project without compromising safety or quality.

Techniques & Materials

  • Projection: A projector was used at night to ensure accurate scaling and positioning of the large letters.
  • Taping and Priming: The slatted wall was carefully taped, primed, and painted with high-quality exterior paint to ensure durability and boldness.
  • Boom Lift Operation: A 60-foot boom lift provided safe access to the upper sections of the wall while ensuring precision during the painting process.
  • Safety Measures: PPE, sunscreen, and proper hydration were essential during long workdays under sunny conditions.

Impact & Feedback

The completed mural delivers on its promise of visibility and impact. Its size and simplicity make it impossible to miss, creating a landmark feature for the casino. The construction company and casino stakeholders were highly satisfied with the execution and professionalism of the project.

Timeframe & Scale

This project was completed in approximately one week, including setup, painting, and touch-ups. The combination of efficient planning, on-site accommodations, and teamwork ensured the project stayed on schedule without compromising quality.
