DEAR GRAIN BAKERY – HAND-PAINTED SIGNAGE

📍 Hamilton, ON

This hand-painted bakery sign was created for Dear Grain Bakery, bringing a bold yet classic look to the historic brick façade of this Hamilton building. The clean, modern lettering contrasts beautifully against the aged brick, creating a timeless aesthetic that enhances the storefront’s visibility while maintaining its industrial charm.

TECHNICAL EXECUTION & PROCESS

• Vinyl Stencil Application:
To ensure crisp, clean lettering, we used a custom-cut vinyl stencil for the “Dear Grain Bakery” signage. This technique allows for precision, especially on rough brick surfaces, and ensures uniformity in the lettering.

• Priming & Top Coating:
Before applying the final color, the letters were first primed with a high-quality exterior primer to seal the brick and improve paint adhesion. This step is crucial when working on porous surfaces like brick, as it prevents paint from being absorbed unevenly. After priming, the lettering was top-coated with a durable, exterior-grade semi-gloss paint, offering added longevity and weather resistance.

• Accessing the Heights:
Given the height of the lettering, we used extension ladders to reach the upper portions of the wall safely and efficiently. The alignment of the stencils and the stability of the ladders were key factors in ensuring a smooth execution.

• Project Duration & Travel:
This project required two days to complete, including stencil preparation, painting, drying times between coats, and final touch-ups. Our team traveled far and wide to complete this job, ensuring that every detail met the bakery’s branding vision.

RESULT & IMPACT

The finished signage provides maximum readability from a distance, making it an eye-catching landmark for both pedestrians and passing traffic. The bold white-on-brick design gives the bakery an established and artisanal feel, perfectly fitting the brand’s identity.
