ROOFTOP PATIO CONDO MURAL

This mural project was commissioned by a delightful older couple enjoying their life in a downtown Toronto condo. The wife, an avid art collector and antique dealer with a unique taste, wanted to beautify the large wall that greets you when stepping out onto their rooftop patio. She envisioned something whimsical and expressive that would transform the space into a mystical escape.

Inspiration & Concept Development

During my initial visit to their home, I had the opportunity to view her impressive art collection. A fan of abstract art, she wasn’t interested in refined, intricate details but instead sought movement and expression. After presenting a few designs, we collaboratively narrowed down the options to the one that perfectly matched her vision—a lush, vibrant scene evoking the whimsy of a tropical forest.

Near the end of the mural’s completion, the client suggested playfully adding small monkeys to the scene, enhancing its charm and storytelling quality. This creative collaboration brought her vision to life, resulting in a mural that invites imagination and joy.

Techniques & Materials

  • Freehand Painting: The entire mural was painted freehand to allow for fluid movement and organic expression in the design.
  • Custom Mixed Colors: We used exterior-grade paint and mixed colors on-site to achieve the vibrant greens and lively hues that define the mural.
  • Playful Details: Small monkeys were added as whimsical accents, blending seamlessly into the tropical setting.

Impact & Feedback

The completed mural transformed the patio space into a mystical tropical escape, adding a sense of wonder and creativity to the couple’s outdoor area. The client expressed her joy at how the mural exceeded her expectations, capturing the fun and whimsy she desired. She looks forward to spending many summers on the patio, enjoying the vibrant scene and letting her imagination wander.

Timeframe & Scale

This project was completed over several days, with meticulous attention to detail and collaboration with the client to ensure her vision was fully realized.
