SPACCIO – REVERSE-STYLE PAINTED SIGN

For this project, we created a bold, reverse-style hand-painted sign for Spaccio, an Italian eatery and production space in Toronto. The sign was carefully integrated into the historic ghost signs already present on the building, maintaining the industrial aesthetic while adding a modern branding element.

Project Details:

• Reverse-Style Technique: Instead of painting the letters themselves, we painted the negative space, allowing the brick background to form the text.
• Vinyl Stencil Application: To ensure precision and sharp edges, we applied a custom vinyl stencil before painting.
• Equipment Used: Due to obstructions such as built-in benches and trees, a Genie Boom Lift was necessary to access the area safely.
• Historic Context: This sign was added beneath the restored Scythes Company Limited ghost sign, contributing to the character of the building while respecting its heritage.

This project was a great example of how hand-painted signage can enhance a space while preserving its history.
