Custom painted signage for Stark Fitness, a fitness gym located on Gerrard St East.
Stark Fitness, 2209 Gerrard St E, Toronto ON

The owner of Stark Fitness is a very energetic and healthy individual. For the front, he went with a painted sign. A painted sign can set you apart from the rest of the “same” signs that you find around. There space above the entrance was a great spot for the painted sign. For their signage, they chose a simple and impressive logo that imparts the no-nonsense place of productivity and fitness approach.

The foot traffic around the particular part of town and in front of the fitness club is fairly light so we didn’t have to pay special attention to that. We used an A-frame ladder to access this area. If the signage would have required a lot of time then we may have considered using a different form of access.

Benjamin Moore Aura paint was used to paint in these letters. This paint can be used in low temperatures, the manufacturer’s recommendations is nothing below 2 celsius, when we were painting this sign it wasn’t that cold but it was around 5 celsius. It was still within the limits of the cold.

We used regular vinyl to make a stencil for this sign to ensure the vinyl stencil would stick to the brick surface. If we use the typical paint mask stencil vinyl it may not of adhered to well to the wall, making our job much more difficult.

This job took 2 days because we wanted to let the paint completely dry before we put a second on. Typically Aura paint can be repainted quite quickly, but due to the temperature, we took the extra precaution of letting the paint completely dry to make sure the sign would turn out great.

This sign can be seen from anywhere traveling on Gerrard St and also when you’re traveling on Main St, north of Gerrard St.
