TORQ RIDE MURAL – LESLIEVILLE

 

CLIENT NEEDS & PROJECT SCOPE

This project was completed for Torq Ride, an indoor cycling studio in Leslieville, aiming to transform the exterior of their building into a bold and energetic statement that reflects the studio’s modern, high-energy atmosphere. The mural design includes vibrant half-circle graphics, large-scale typography, and branding elements that reinforce the identity of the space.

The mural spans two prominent sides of the building:

  • The long side wall facing the street – decorated with a series of colorful half-circles in black, red, and green, creating a dynamic sense of movement and flow.
  • The front entrance wall – featuring a black vertical block with the Torq Ride logo in striking white, alongside red and white branding elements to highlight the entrance.

Additionally, a motivational phrase was added on the rear garage door to tie everything together and further enhance the studio’s identity.

EXECUTION & TECHNIQUES

Due to the large scale and varying surface textures, several techniques were employed to achieve a crisp and professional finish:

  • Half-Circle Designs:

    • Large custom stencils were created to ensure precise and consistent shapes.
    • The stencils were placed, traced onto the wall, and carefully hand-painted to maintain sharp edges.
    • The placement of the circles was carefully planned to align with architectural features, such as windows and doorways, creating a balanced composition.

  • Text & Branding:

    • The Torq Ride logo and Leslieville Cycling Studio name were stenciled onto the black-painted vertical section for maximum visibility.
    • The gray background section was first painted using a level line and taped edges to create sharp, professional results.
    • Precision-cut stencils were used for the typography, ensuring consistency in letter spacing and proportions.

  • Height & Accessibility Challenges:

    • Due to the tall nature of the building, extension ladders were used to safely access and paint the higher sections.
    • Proper alignment was crucial when working at heights, requiring careful measurement and positioning of each design element.

RECEPTION & IMPACT

The completed mural revitalized the studio’s exterior, turning it into an eye-catching urban landmark. The combination of bold colors, geometric design, and clean typography gives the building a modern, high-energy look, perfectly aligning with the dynamic spirit of indoor cycling.

This project was an exciting challenge that combined precision, creativity, and branding expertise to create a cohesive and visually striking exterior for Torq Ride.
